Rakuten Gora Partners with GreenSight to Launch Drone Services in Japan

Global internet services company Rakuten (OTCMKTS: RKUNY) has selected GreenSight as their technology provider to launch golf course agronomic intelligence services in Japan. The two companies are partnering to launch GreenSight’s unique automated intelligence platform to golf courses across Japan. Rakuten announced the initiative in a press release last month.

Among other products for agriculture, enterprise, and military applications, GreenSight provides a suite of technology tools for golf courses. GreenSight’s TurfSight platform, launched in a 2016 pilot, has proven benefits to golf course quality, consistency and performance. In addition to the qualitative benefits, golf courses across the US and Canada have used the system to reduce fertilizer usage, chemical applications and increase water efficiency. TurfSight combines custom industry leading agronomic drones equipped with patented sensors. The drones interface with the company’s remote operations software systems and novel automated image processing pipeline that uses artificial intelligence to turn drone aerial images into actionable turf management data. GreenSight’s drone service integrates with its industry leading TurfCloud digital turf management platform, which combines a digital job board with an equipment planner and agronomic planner. Rakuten GORA has been piloting GreenSight’s technology in Japan, and plans to launch full scale service nationally in the near future. Rakuten hopes to boost the sustainability of golf course operations in Japan which have been impacted by lack of qualified staff to maintain grounds. Golf remains one of the most popular sports in Japan, with over 85 million annual active participants playing at over 2000 Japanese golf courses. Rakuten hopes to provide beneficial and useful solutions to the Japanese golf course industry using GreenSight’s TurfSight and TurfCloud platforms.
