Program to use drones to develop best practices to reduce vineyard water consumption, identify pests, and precisely apply agricultural chemicals.

GreenSight has been awarded a USDA conservation innovation grant from the state Rhode Island to bring their world leading agricultural intelligence platform to the vineyard industry. The company teamed with two of Rhode Island’s premier vineyards, Newport Vineyards and Greenvale Vineyards, to win the 2020 USDA-NCRS Conservation Innovation Grant from the state of Rhode Island.

Modern viticulture is a highly integrated industry in which commercial vineyard operators, vendor partners, and technology firms work hand and hand to develop innovative solutions in a highly competitive environment.

Conservation Innovation Grants support the development of new tools, approaches, practices, and technologies to further natural resource conservation on private lands. Through creative problem solving and innovation, CIG partners work to address our nation’s water quality, air quality, soil health and wildlife habitat challenges, all while improving agricultural operations.

In winning the 2020 USDA-NCRS Conservation Innovation Grant for the state of Rhode Island, GreenSight Inc. in partnership with two of Rhode Island’s premier vineyards, Newport Vineyards and Greenvale Vineyards, will develop best practices to apply drone remote sensing data and artificial intelligence to generate actionable insights for viticulturists. Leveraging GreenSight’s tried and tested drone intelligence platform, already proven to enable dramatic savings in water and chemical usage in the US golf and turf industry, GreenSight, Newport Vineyards, and Greenvale Vineyards will develop best practices to apply these advanced tools to reduce vineyard water consumption, identify pests, and precisely apply agricultural chemicals. Over the course of 18 months, the project will quantify these results, assessing the measurable benefits to the vineyard industry and the state of Rhode Island environment, as well as developing best practices that can be applied generally to the national wine industry.

This grant supports GreenSight’s 2021 push to launch our technology into the vineyard industry nationally and particularly in the Napa Valley, CA. Additional vineyards interested in being a part of our launch program should get in touch!

GreenSight’s agricultural intelligence platform is the leading system to transform drone imagery into actionable intelligence for agriculture. It combines GreenSight’s industry leading flight time drones with custom developed sensors and machine learning based image processing techniques. GreenSight provides the drone industry’s only fully turnkey “drone in a box” system, remotely managing the drones and empowering customers in multiple industries to use drones for their businesses with minimal effort on their part. The system has been used at over 400 customer sites in 6 countries, gathering over 9000 flights and 2 million acres worth of data over.
